Elaine is a self-taught potter who, after falling in love with clay 20 years ago at evening classes, rediscovered it in 2018 and hasn’t looked back.
She now creates contemporary wheel-thrown stoneware ceramics from her small studio in Dunblane, Perthshire. Each handmade piece is individually designed and formed to be both functional and decorative.
Inspired by the colours and textures found in nature, Elaine focusses on altered forms and carving and decorates her pieces using a variety of glazes, slips, and oxides to highlight the intricate surface designs of her work. Her forms are made exclusive on the potter’s wheel in stoneware and high-fired earthenware clay.
Holding an MSc Advanced Environmental and Energy Studies, and having worked in the environmental sector for over 16 years, Elaine ensures that her studio and practice are as environmentally sustainable as possible.
